"In wildness is the preservation of the world."
Henry David Thoreau
(See pictures below text which relate to our effort)
Dear Friends, The Friends of Bald Mountain Pond are launching a united effort to protect the 10,000 acres surrounding and including Bald Mountain Pond. This
1,152 acre body of water located in Bald Mountain Township, northeast of Bingham, Maine, is a remote, relatively undeveloped Class 1A lake whose northern rim traverses the Appalachian Trail. With it's ease of
access, outstanding fisheries, scenic features, and proximity to large numbers of Central Maine citizens, Bald Mountain Pond deserves not only our attention, but our protection for current and future generations.
As Friends of the Pond, we believe the State of Maine should work with Plum Creek, who currently owns a large portion of the land surrounding the pond, to establish the area as Public
Reserved land. We believe in public access to the land and accessability to all citizens for recreation including hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. We support no future private development and no
additional permanent roads in existing roadless areas to conserve its pristine qualities. Please consider joining our effort to protect Bald Mountain Pond. Contact the Friends with your
questions or to receive additional information about joining our effort, attending our monthly meetings, contributing financial help, or to receive a copy of our brochure for yourself or someone else who might be
interested.(Click contact us button on left)
